May I say a huge thank you and congratulations to all who made the ‘Born to Run’ 40 mile Ultra Marathon a success. On another inclement Llanelli day there were only 22 hardy starters from over 50 that had initially entered with entries coming from across the UK. That there were 20 finishers with times ranging from 5 to 8 and a half hours once again showed the amazing resilience from the runners with many personal battles going on in increasingly poor weather..
The winner of the race for a second time, in 5:00:27, was Simon Martin of Cobra AC whilst first lady home, in a ladies course record of 5:51:00, was Sanna Duthie.
Saying that, the whole field should be proud of their fantastic efforts on a deceivingly demanding route, in torrential rain and gale force winds, that started from Bynea Cycle Club and went along the coastal path to Burry Port Industrial Estate before turning back and through Sandy Water Park to join the Mynydd Mawr route heading inland up past Pontyberem to Tumble before returning to the cycle club.
Along with the fantastic efforts of the runners the event’s success was in no small part down to the support and efforts of everyone at Bynea Cycle Club, the superb team of marshalls from Sospan Road Runners and supporters who were out and about on the course all day. A huge thank you to all.
See you next time….
